PDR is a craft of leverage, light, and patience. The technician first gains access to the back side of the dented panel: through a window opening, a removed trim panel, or an existing service access point. A PDR light board is positioned over the dent to exaggerate its shadows, revealing the exact topography of the damage down to fractions of a millimeter.

Working from behind the panel with precision-tipped rods, the technician applies a sequence of small, controlled pushes, often hundreds of them, starting at the outer edge of the dent and working inward.
